Understanding & Completing the Certificate of Death
The Death Certificate often times is seen as just a necessary piece of paper that is required to proceed with a funeral. All to often little attention is paid to understanding many of the required items that need to be answered to complete it. Many of us pay little or no attention to understanding the cause of death, nor why understanding it, is extremely important to you, the family you serve, and to society.
A cause of death tells a story. A story that explains exactly why someone died. The Certificate of Death is a Legal Document and, as such, it is incumbent on the Funeral Director to understand the necessity for each item to be completed, completely and accurately.
This course covers every item on a Certificate of Death allowing for the fact that some parts of it will normally only be completed by the Medical Certifier, Medical Examiner or Coroner, or Funeral Director.
The Author
Richard A. Santore President Practicum Strategies attended City College of New York and the McAllister School of Embalming and has had a career in funeral service spanning over 40 years. Richard is a published author of numerous articles pertaining to the funeral profession. He also served as publisher of Today in Deathcare a national publication for funeral professionals as well as the Executive Director of Associated Funeral Directors International. Richard his served as a Curriculum Design and Implement Consultant within the Johnson City, Tennessee School System and a Guest Faculty Member at Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, Virginia.
