Universal Precautions - CDC Updates
All funeral service professionals should be well aware of Universal Precautions published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and their relevance to funeral service, a review of these precautions should be an annual exercise for every funeral director, and embalmer.
From acknowledging the dangers of bloodborne pathogens and the health precautions that should become habits in the preparation room to understanding the reasons why Universal Precautions are in place and should be practiced, this course serves as a helpful reminder of best practices when it comes to the health and safety of everyone involved in preparing human remains.

The Author
Alice Adams has been affiliated with the funeral service profession since 1989, serving as director of training and development for personnel involved, in every aspect of funeral home and cemetery operations. More recently, she is a contributing editor to The Texas Director, a monthly publication for the Texas Funeral Directors Association.
A graduate of the University of Texas, she holds degrees in education/mass communications and is a doctoral candidate at The University of Houston in the field of education leadership with a specialization in adult education.
She has developed educational materials for funeral directors for more than a decade and has authored more than two dozen continuing educational modules as well as textbooks used in mortuary schools across the country.
She has also co-written more than a dozen self-development books in the field of management and communications. An award-winning writer, she recently earned two first-place awards in the Texas Gulf Coast Press Association’s Annual Writing Competition.
